With a relatively small population of 600,000, people in Bhutan enjoy a sustainable lifestyle, which they inherited from their forefathers. Buddhism, prevalent in the country since the 7th century, respects all forms of life and considers them sacred. The natural elements of the earth: wind, water, rocks, trees, lakes and mountains are seen as the abode of gods and goddesses and spirits and demons. They are believed to punish, with death and disease, those who disturb and pollute their domain.
You travel through some of the most beautiful valleys in western Bhutan, where the trekker comes in contact with several remote villages and monasteries. As in the Journey to Drukyul, this tour is concentrated in the western region of the country with the addition of a visit to the beautiful Gangtey valley, one of the main winter homes to the rare blacked necked crane. The birds fly south to the area from Mongolia during winter months to escape the harsh climatic conditions there. The birds arrive in early November and leave for the north by March.

It is incredible experiences to trek in Bhutan. Trekkers are the fortunate people to be in Bhutan since they are the one who will have opportunity to see the beautiful Kingdom of Bhutan at its most magnificent verdant forest which cloak the hills above its peaceful valleys, the trails are clean and unspoiled, and the wilderness still pristine in its beauty.

Samtengang Trek is one of the easier lower altitude treks in Bhutan. It explores some of the beautiful forests, overlooking different kinds of flora and fauna with many remote historical and religious sites and isolated villages in and above the Punakha & Wangdi Valley. Weather permitting, it also offers stunning views of mountainous peaks including Jumolhari (7315m), Kang Bum Peak located above Gaza (6300m) and Tiger Mountain (Gangcheta 6840m) north of Laya. Some of the climbs may be steep and challenging. This trek is especially recommended in winter as there is the possibility of leeches on the trail during the remainder of the year.

In many aspects trekking experience in Bhutan is different than in Nepal. All treks in Bhutan are packaged trek with guides and mules or yaks. It is closely monitored by Tourism authority of Bhutan.

This is a short four day trek in Punakha valley. Average altitude is around 1500 to 2000 meter. You have opportunity to visit villages and experience country life very closely.
